While I am happily married, I have a unique and personal experience at the intersection of grief, trauma and finances. Shortly after finding out we were expecting twins, my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. I am a planner by nature and by trade, and all of a sudden, any plans I had for the future were gone.
Not only did we have to process the grief around the diagnosis, but we were forced to financially plan for the worst case scenario at the same time. It was overwhelming and terrifying, but I felt fortunate to have my financial background and the confidence that I would be able to manage the finances for my family regardless of the outcome.
Through this experience, my calling became clear — I want to help alleviate financial stress for women in similar situations, whether it be death or divorce, so they can conserve their precious emotional resources and focus on their family’s wellbeing.
